About us

 

            A Father’s Walk was founded in April of 2008 by Matt Haviland. Having been a single father for over 9 years, Matt understands the struggles single dads (both full and noncustodial) encounter on a daily basis. He is someone who lives “in the trenches” regularly and has a burning passion to help other single dads overcome their trials; to grow and succeed in becoming the father God always meant for them to be.

 

            Matt grew up in a single parent household himself, living with his mom. He saw his dad on a somewhat regular basis. Still, the lack of a full time father figure and not being brought up in a Christian household ultimately led to a self-destructive path of drinking, drugs, and sexual immorality. In 2006 he became a father himself. The first few years of his daughter’s life were extremely stressful: physically, emotionally, and financially. He had begun attending church in 2001, but never really allowed for God to move in his life the way he should. When his daughter was about 8 months old, Matt made the one decision that would change his life (and his daughter’s) forever. On January 7, 2007 he completely surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized a few months later. The following year, God gave him the vision for A Father’s Walk. Since then, the ministry has continued to grow and flourish and Matt is now fully committed to his relationship with Jesus, his daughter, and his mission to help change generations by leading single dads in Christ.

 

            A Father’s Walk is a ministry dedicated specifically to this vision. We are a hub, a resource, and with God’s leading- an inspiration to other dads as to the saving grace and restoration that only faith in our Lord can provide. Jesus tells us in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” That is our prayer for you: that no matter how hard or impossible it may seem right now, Dad, you CAN be the man and father God always intended you to be.
